PAST.. Past Life

!!! We all have past, we all have good and bad memories associated with our past or even something thats continuously associated rather than coming in flashes to haunt. We’ll have some moments in the past that we enjoy, feel proud of, and may be unconsciously silently hoping it to be repeated ; and some moments that we cant even look into. Yet past doesn’t have same effect for all of us but if past chain would keep pulling us how do we proceed further, we would get slow, frustrated.

In Hinduism, Past is called Bhoot, the same word is used to denote ghosts as well. Must be the reason because we often scared of our past like a ghost, we want to run and they keep following us, like ghosts are felt in darkness similarly past also comes more vividly alive when we’re alone..in silence..in dark so our mind is quiet and ready to be captured.

Our existence isn’t so independent, we’re a social animal. We seek refuge under religion, we find the assurance, whenever a new challenge comes…our mind wanders quickly to search for previous proofs either positive or negative. Let’s say past conditioning tells you that you are unlovable. Then when someone says ‘I love you’, you don’t react honestly to those words, because your mind searches proof and finds old doubts, insecurity and negative experiences with love. The new gets obliterated by the old.

I was approached many times by people asking- “this incident keep coming to my mind and I get totally disturbed and lose my concentration, is it possible to get rid of these past incidents? How I forget those root and feel fresh to fly and achieve as much as I can? These failed relationship experience don’t let me trust even good people, and I’m hurt as much by losing these good people as much by past experience, how can I be normal, for God sake? . Yes, I agree, understand your pain, you cannot transform yourself until these past bad memories are on your back, they remind you of your identity, limitations, sufferings and don’t let you feel fresh for a transformation. Until we leave this backpack extra baggages, the journey becomes difficult, we don’t get what we deserve as these baggages soaks our energy…clutters our mind…induces doubts about results and disbelief about ourself, thereby we remain far from our potential. They’ve deep impact on both your neurological and psychological level with or without your awareness of it.

That’s why I decided to write this blog. Now lets face, we should only get scared of the ghost until its not there, once it has come you can’t hide but must fight to survive. Guessed right, we’ll have to face whatever bad experience or memories we’ve, we can’t keep escaping.

Lets see how to get rid of those past hauntings

Below are some very important points to deal with these ghosts and bring your life on track. ghost from past

  • Examine- examine the culprits. Initially, no need to go to our depth, its just enough to pounce on those appearing and catch as soon as they appear in your memory, strong enough to disturb. It may not be much fun to dig so deep within but it is an important part of the process. You also need to examine and find the core feeling of what causes your thoughts to go to your past. Once you have found this, admit to yourself what you feel. Make this list of all memories you’ve that need healing and need to go.
  • Find the Physical Signs of Emotional trauma-  Each person will have different response to same emotional trauma, and even no two traumas are same, so its important to consider your own situational individuality. Particularly impactful experiences can leave noticeable physical traces indicative of emotional trauma, find the symptoms. Example of Common physical symptoms at initial level – trouble sleeping due to insomnia or nightmares, a racing or unsteady heartbeat, physical aches and pains all over your body, being easily startled, tiredness, trouble concentrating, agitation, being on edge, and tense muscles. After sometime they go more deep and impact and symptoms could be more severe.
  • Figure the Impact on your Current life- See how those memories have impacted your current life. They might have turned into phobias, they might letting you respond normally to situations associated with those events etc. Compare yourself before and after event, compare yourself to other normal person and assess rationally as a 3rd person. An honest assessment help you prepare better.
  • Get involved, don’t run away- Whenever you start to feel anxiety in situations that remind of painful memories, engage with them and watch, don’t run away. Identify the memories, observe and watch what’s happening than simply removing yourself from the situation entirely. A mindfulness meditation would be quite useful here. Watch them as movies, you’ll understand the connections of what allows it to surface and what are the effects.
    • Write down , in points about –
      1. Events that took place,
      2. The cause,
      3. What was good and what was bad,
      4. The result,
      5. and the lesson learned from the situation.
  • Release- Our body tries to keep a memory of as much of our experiences as possible. Like, you may feel your body tense up when you have to ask for help or borrow money, or your face may get hot when you’re asked to speak in front of a crowd. Animals shake when they experience trauma or anxiety to calm their nervous down and start fresh, this enables them to move on without the physical memory of the situation. We need to do similar- Do gentle shaking and take breath to let go negativities and start fresh. You can shake upper parts together or start with your feet and work your way up, one body part at a time, or you can turn on a song that mirrors the way you’re feeling and sing, dance, or cry until you feel physically and emotionally satisfied. All of these things will help give the emotion a voice and move the emotion out of your body.


  • Intuition– We often ignore our inner-voice, the wiser one. Maybe you recognize that you should have listened to your inner voice; the one that told you not to go in the particular direction that led to the “mistake”.
  • Forgive- This is a very strong weapon. Our emotions towards something, whether negative (angry,fear) or positive(love,care) means we get connected. We must break the relation to get rid, and to do that…we must forgive our bad experiences. A bad past that continually revisits you, you might be feeling that you have let yourself down or have let others down, but dwelling on those feelings and thoughts are only going to make you miserable and make you feel inadequate and bring you more of the same due to connection. Start with forgiving yourself for something and then others.Forgiving someone actually helps you more than it could ever help the person who needs to be forgiven. You see, when you forgive someone you are letting all the feelings of anger, frustration, and sadness go. You can then move forward. It doesn’t mean we’re vulnerable,it only means that we’re letting it go but will be prepared for future.
  • Divert Energy- Yes, divert your focus and brain energy. Make your brain so busy that it doesn’t have time to go back and listen to negativities,let your brain be busy first and then enjoy with the results…it’ll feel self reliant in the moment.
  • Involve with other’s Pain- It’s the best remedy. Looking at other’s pain, the value of your pain diminishes and it allows you not only to detach from your own issue but divert attention and you might also feel better by helping others, new contacts and blessing might open new doors. Like poison treats poison, “cure for Pain is in the pain”.
  • Future- Make an ambitious future plan, this ambition could be anything from materialistic to happiness or relations etc. Again purpose is to have something that sound so interesting that it brings your focus completely on it. This will allow to move your energy upwards.
  • Learn something new- It could be a language, habit, hobby or music…anything that can bring your focus, but something that excites you and keep you upbeat. Bring the passion into life.
  • Open up- You need to open yourself up..open your mind to look the world as it is, open to new experiences, open to speak up, open to hear more without being impatient and open to accept criticism understanding no-one is perfect but at least you’re improving. Express yourself, say ‘NO’ if you need to.
  • Change your Routine life- Changing your routine life will bring a fresh air, make you feel different about yourself and see things from a new angle. May be an evening or morning walk, joining a social group or club etc. Many times it is seen that physical activities are good way to come out any trauma as it lets you throw frustration, the achievement helps you recover damaged self-respect, so you can join a fitness class or martial art class as well.
  • Go to Nature- Nature is the best healer, they’ve everything for us but we’ve distant ourselves form the nature and suffering has increased. Get closer to Nature, wake up early and breathe the early morning air, not just from the nose but from the entire pore of your body. Sleep early.
  • Food & drink- Eat more natural & fresh foods. Drink more water. Take more fibrous food, and less meat that too more of fish. Take less sugar, if you need extra raw salt with food then take black salt. do not take heavy food, instead divide your daily intake in 4-6 meals and change them.
  • Hygiene- A fresh mind needs a fresh environment. Maintain hygiene with yourself…around yourself. Wear fresh clothes, light colours are more effective. You would immediately feel better, fresh to start.
  • Creative Writing- Writing is one of best way to let yourself out. You can tell your heart out, it requires integration of multiple disciplines (thoughts, experience etc) so takes lot of your attention, it can also be fun as well. It can allow you to see connections between situations in your life and your emotions. If you struggle with this, start small by simply writing about what happened to you throughout the day. If you feel any urge to connect what happened to anything that happened to you in your past, allow those connections to be made without forcing your writing to go in one particular direction as opposed to another.
  • Stay away from Negativity- Try to avoid negative people, comments and thinkings. Stop generalizing and look at things with a more positive attitude which starts with yourself. Again that doesn’t mean not hearing to criticism but the purpose of such comments should be constructive and not destructive. Forget your limitation and go beyond your perception or belief about yourself…be Free.
  • Heal your energy centers- Our energy centers or Chakras control our all bodies- physical, emotional, mental, and Spiritual. Any emotional issues or negative energies tend to block the associated energy center and its reflection is seen in the body function that is controlled by that Chakra. Heal your Chakras, you can do or take help of practitioner for spiritual healing methods like Reiki, Pranic healing etc. Or you can even use various methods,like-Chakra Meditation,Colour therapy, Physical exercises and using Gems or stones,to improve functioning and balance of that chakra.
  • Ask for Help- If you feel like you need an outside perspective or you find it hard to get out of your own head, ask others if they’ve noticed anything different about you since the experience that left you with the painful memory. This will require some courage on your part, as they might tell you something you don’t want to hear. However, other people, especially those closest to you, are often able to pick on things about you that you fail notice. At best, see professional help of a Coach, could be a relationship coach, career coach or any other.

It’s never easy to delve deep into oneself where the old traumas and wounds lie in hiding but remember ..to win, you have to fight..and fight with your all because your entire future is waiting with open arms for you to come, not being defeated but as a winner. He or She who conquer themselves can conquer the world.
